Dar es Salaam – based Clouds Media Group has clinched this year’s Daudi Mwangosi Heroic Journalism Servanthood Excellence Award, after its broadcasters on duty had boldly succeeded in resisting a senior government official’s intimidation early this year.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Paul Makonda , accompanied by gun – wielding policemen stormed a Cloud fm studio in an attempt to force the broadcaster to air a programme which would have contravened the media house’s code of ethics.
In recognition of the broadcasters’ exemplary courageous, unwavering position, panel of judges Chair, Mr. Jenerali Ulimwengu pronounced officially the Clouds Media Group the rightful winner of the Award for 2017, during UTPC Members General Meeting (MGM), held in Tanga between 15th and 16th September, 2017.
Besides a glass shield and certificate of recognition, the Clouds Media Group’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Simalenga Simon received a dummy cheque for Tsh.10.0m/ from Tanzania Media Foundation Executive Director, Mr. Ernest Sungura, a guest of honour.
The Award’s winner for 2013, when it was introduced for the first time in honour of the late Daudi Mwangosi, has been New Habari Corporation Managing Editor, Mr. Absalom Kibanda. Mwangosi was brutally killed by the police at Mufindi District’s Nyololo village on 2nd September, 2012.
Receiving the Award the representative thanked the organizers for the prize and challenged journalism practitioners to continue being agenda setters in the country no matter what, saying a worthy person is he / she whoever leaves behind a legend after death (ends).
