NIGF delegetees at their group photo 

Stakeholders of National Internet Governance Forum (NIGF), have resolved to put more efforts in addressing challenges affecting internet resource.

They advised the NIGF Steering Committee, to publicize the forum so that other stakeholders especially mobile phone operators, should attend.

Emphasizing the importance of cyber security in the in the country, they challenged TZNIC to reduce the registration fee of .tz as compared to .com.

On the importance of national security, they stressed the need of having national IDs for every citizen, as well as securing cyber traffic.

The forum was officially opened by Engineer Sunday Richard from TCRA on behalf of the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) Director General Dr Yahaya Simba.

Eng Richard who is the TCRA Director of Telegraphic Monitoring, thanked various stakeholders who made it possible for the forum to take place.

Six presentations were presented and deliberated upon by the participants.

Those presentations are spectrum availability white space spectrum and internet penetration in Tanzania by Dr Emmanuel Manasseh, understanding cyber laws in Tanzania by Said Kalunde and Development on internet in Tanzania in TTCL perspective by Florent Mtuka.

Others are National IDs and information society by Alphonce Malibiche, Adoption of .tz domain name by Sarah Mhamilwa and Online Children protection by Dr Jim Yonaz.

Since 2008 UTPC has been organizing for the National Internet Governance Forum (NIGF) in Tanzania, and support the participation of Tanzania to regional and global IGF.

This year’s NIGF has been supported by TZNIC, UNESCO, COSTECH, IFM, Tanzania Institute of Technology and Tanzania Global Learning Centre.
