Tanzania participation to East African Internet Governance Forum 2015 was impressive.

The Tanzania delegation was led by the Chair of Tanzania National Internet Governance Forum’s. Steering Committee Mr Kenneth Simbaya and the UTPC Executive Director  Mr Abubakar Karsan.

Mr Simbaya presented the Tanzania report to the forum, which explained what his committee had done in respect of the organization of the country IGF.

He said the NIGF Steering Committee met prior to the national IGF and deliberated on various matters, such as the topics to be discussed, venue and the list of the stakeholders to be invited.

On the major issues that were discussed at the national IGF, Simbaya said national security was paramount. The participants expressed their concerns on the system on the national IDs to be protected against hackers.

Another issue that featured prominently in the forum, was online child protection, Simbaya added.

Cyber crimes was also discussed a lot, to the extent that many were worried about cyber crime act recently passed to impact their freedom to use internet negatively.

This year’s EAIGF which has justly concluded, was held in Kampala and attended by 60 participants, from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi.

At the end of the forum, it was agreed to strengthen the coordination of EAIGF. The Ugandan focal point Ms Lilian Nalwoga has been tasked to come up with the proposal on how to approach the matter.
