Four newly - founded Press Clubs get a boost

Four newly – founded Press Clubs, based in equally new regions of Geita,  Njombe, Katavi and Simiyu, are so lucky for being provided with modern working equipment, donated by National Micro – finance Bank (NMB), Mwanza Branch, for the first time in UTPC’s history.

The Bank’s Managing Director (MD), Ms Ineke Bussmaker handed brand new 16 desk top computers, 4 laptops and 4 printers, all worth some 28.0m/=, over to Executive Director of UTPC, Mr Abubakar Karsan, at a short but relatively colourful ceremony, held at its premises, along Balewa Road, in Mwanza, on 21st April, 2016.

UTPC will, in its capacity as an umbrella body for Press Clubs currently scattered all over United Republic of Tanzania, hand 4 desk top computers, a laptop and a printer over to each of the aforesaid newly founded Press Club, just  shortly so the recipients could be able to match older ones.

Saying such a donation is in strict compliance with social responsibility principle, by which her Bank always abides,  Ms Ineke contended,  in front of a sizeable number of local journalism practitioners invited to come and cover the event,  that annually NMB sets aside 1% of the profit generated for the country’s  supporting health facilities and the press, which she described as a catalyst for transparency and accountability.

Accompanied by the NMB, Kenyatta Rd Branch Manager, Mr Amos Magusi and the Bank’s Zonal Manager, Mr Abraham Augustine, the CEO said pieces of  the aforesaid modern devices donated would enable the four Press Clubs’ members in particular and the media fraternity at large to fulfill their professional obligations well enough.

She expressed optimism, therefore, that the recipients would put the equipment to judicious use, as planned, in processing and subsequently disseminating new stories and feature articles / documentaries.

On his side, Geita Press Club (GPC) Chairperson, Mr Daniel Limbe, who is among the beneficiaries, expressed his gratitude to NMB saying he is extremely delighted to see his Club being one of the luckiest media institutions to receive the equipment. He was speaking on behalf of fellow leaders of the new Press Clubs.

Earlier on, Mr Karsan, who took the initiative to request for the equipment, gave the NMB officials a full briefing on what UTPC and Press Clubs are all about, pivotal roles they play in the society.

He then handed the UTPC Strategic Plan 2016 – 20120 over to Ms Ineke, apparently for her to be able to go through it and see what NMB can do about it.  An outgoing Strategic Plan 2011 – 2013, implemented much to the Swedish International Development Agency’s satisfaction, officially drew to its close on 31st December, 2013.
