Union of Tanzania Press Clubs

The Union of Tanzania Press Clubs is abbreviated as UTPC. It is an umbrella body of press clubs in Tanzania. So far it has 28 press clubs which are its members. These press clubs are geographically located all over Tanzania. UTPC is a non governmental organization which was established in 1996 and registered in 1997.It was formed by press clubs to act as their umbrella. It is a membership based organization. Its headquarters is in Dodoma.

UTPC proudly stands with robust structures that bolster its operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in fulfilling its objectives

Members General Meeting

This is the highest policy making body comprising of 84 members coming from 28 press clubs. Each press club is represented by 3 people in the Members General Meeting

Board Meeting

This supervisory body consists of ten members elected every three years to oversee and guide the organization's activities and decision-making
processes.

THE SECRETARIAT

This is an implementation body responsible for executing various activities, operating under the leadership and direction of the Executive
Director.

OUR OBJECTIVES

Goals that drive us forward
together for success

  • To provide services to Press Clubs
  • To present member clubs in collective bargaining.
  • To facilitate the operations of the Press Clubs in Tanzania
  • To promote, and maintain codes of ethics for media professionals.
  • To mediate and resolve problems and conflicts of member press clubs
  • To mobilize its members in fighting against laws and regulations that infringe on the freedom of the press
  • To do such other things as maybe that are in the interest of the Union, the media and the public as may be necessary to achieve the objectives
  • To render services designed to ensure efficiency and uniformity in the conduct of the business of its member clubs, by standardizing their operational set-up
  • To print, publish and circulate any newspaper or newsletter or any other publication, designed to foster or increase interest in the objects of the member clubs.
  • To establish links with other organizations and societies involved in marshalling press freedom, fight against corruption, poverty, HIV and Aids pandemic, violations of human rights and related matters.
  • To seek and broaden the knowledge of the club members by identifying training needs, coordinate training, research, funding and scholarships, conduct seminars, workshops and organize exchange programs in collaboration with member clubs.
